2009 Beaucanon Cabernet Sauvignon Longwood

I’ve been holding on to this bottle for a few months now. Tired of seeing it sitting in my wine fridge, I figured tonight was as good a time as any to try it out. I like Napa Cabs well enough, it’s from a good vintage, yet I was lackluster about the wine, not excited to try it at all, and for a very specific reason. When I bought this Cabernet Sauvignon, I also bought the Beaucanon Cabernet Franc. I love Cab Franc, was very excited about that bottle, and was extremely disappointed when I tasted it. Naturally, that disappointment left me with no excitement to try this bottle. Sometimes that thought pattern is all you need to set your mind against a wine in a tasting.

Overall, the 2009 Beaucanon Cabernet Sauvignon Longwood was fine. It had Cab character, black currant, plum, a little green tobacco and earth. It was still quite purple in the glass with medium body, soft tannins and a very short finish. Easy drinking for sure, but overall underwhelming. I wasn’t expecting a great wine, but the Beaucanon fell flat, very little complexity and not enough punch to even get a “tasty” review from me. Mostly, I was bored.
