Ginger Margarita

Ginger Margarita

I’m not much of a tequila fan. I’d usually prefer whiskey or gin. But who doesn’t love a good margarita?

I have 2 main problems with most margaritas.
1. They are too sweet.
2. I hate the salted rim.
I know I’m probably going against the grain with both of those comments, but that’s how I roll. It’s why I chose ginger beer. You can use ginger ale, it’ll still be tasty, but a good ginger beer is much spicier, less sweet, with really pungent ginger flavor. Since I don’t use simple syrup or any other sweeteners in the drink, it allows me to do a sugar rim on the glass, which I find just as pretty and much tastier than salt. Also, I like how clean and frothy the drink looks. It’s very pale since I used white tequila (any tequila you like will work) with a pale ginger beer, but don’t let that fool you. It does pack a punch. A deliciously zippy punch, rounded out by a good amount of fresh squeezed lime. This drink is so simple and refreshing, it’s perfect for sipping in the summer sun.

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3 oz ginger beer
  • slice or wedge of lime for garnish
  • sugar for the rim
Coat the rim of your glass in sugar. Fill the glass 2/3 full of ice. Add the tequila, lime juice and ginger beer. Stir quickly, garnish with the lime wedge and sip to your heart’s content.
