Anthony Road 2010 Pinot Noir

It was in the Finger Lakes (outside of Rochester, NY) where I first discovered I liked wine. New York wine is not easily found here in Florida, so I snatched up several bottles in New York City this Christmas at Chelsea Wine Vault. I’ve been a very big fan of Finger Lakes Rieslings for a while now (Anthony Road Rielsings are pretty fantastic), and I’ve been reading about the great wines coming out of the region as they grow more and more famous.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I had a decent guess. New York is a colder wine region, so unlike CA and Oregon I thought it would be lighter in body and color. My closest comparisons were some of the Loire Valley reds I had tried recently.

The 2010 Anthony Road is definitely light in color (not a bad thing when the grape is pinot noir) and beautifully clear in the glass. High in acidity, it began as I expected, but the finish showed more wood than I was ready for as well a distinct flavor of strawberries and fresh tart cherry. Not my favorite expression of Pinot Noir as a grape, but it had balance. My dear hubby and I had no problem finishing the bottle.

All in all, it was a tasty, well-made wine. Nothing to blow me away, but enjoyable as a daily drinker.
