2010 E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone

There are some regions, some grapes, some styles of wine that just naturally fit.

That’s the way I feel about the Rhone region of France. From the powerful and meaty Crozes-Hermitage in the North, to my favorite Chateneuf-du-Pape in the South, I find something about these wines extremely appealing.

For me, tonight’s wine is a wonderful daily drinker. At around $10 a bottle you get black, red and blue fruit on the nose, primarily blackberries and cherries, with peppery spice, a little earth, and decent tannins and structure. It’s a well made red blend that just works.

It’s not complex, it won’t blow your mind, but you’ll definitely enjoy drinking it. A great value, one to enjoy with food (grilled meats in particular) and not take too seriously.
