Frosé – the Perfect Summer Cocktail

frose

I don’t remember where I first heard about Frosé. It had to have been on social media, but seemingly out of nowhere, Frosé took over all my feeds. Everyone was sitting outside in some gorgeously sunny and trendy locale drinking Frosé.

I knew I had to give it a try.

So I started tinkering, even had a Frosé brunch with a gal pal just as obsessed as me, and we made a ton of Frosé. It’s super simple to make, you freeze rosé wine in ice cube trays then blend with fruit. It’s like an adult slushy, refreshing, fun, yet still a cocktail!

I like doing 50/50 half frozen rosé wine, half fruit. Start there and avoid the crazy complex recipes. Things like vermouth can get overpowering quick and I don’t think they add much to the flavor. Start simple then build your way up. This is definitely not a cocktail where you need a recipe, but a few tips will help you along the way.

1)If you are using strawberries, puree them first. If not, the seeds stay a little crunchy and that does not make for a smooth and lovely Frosé.

2)Don’t be afraid of adding sugar, but don’t be tied to just sugar. An ounce or two of St. Germaine in the blender is a lovely addition, as is honey or agave nectar.

3)While strawberries are classic, they are not the only delicious option. As a matter of fact, watermelon makes a very nice Frosé, and bonus, it needs less sugar. And don’t forget frozen fruit. They make this cocktail super easy whether you are making a little or a lot.

4)Add liquor with care. Once you’ve added the fruit and sugar, these babies go down quick. You can certainly add some hard liquor to the mix, but go easy, it’s meant to be light and refreshing.

5)This is a great way to use up leftover wine. I like rosé wine, but my husband does not. That means I either wait to drink it with friends, or I’ve got a half a bottle left over. Freezing that leftover bit saves for a delicious purpose later.

However you proceed, the results will be delicious!
